St. Charles East Girls Soccer Captures Sectional Title With Late Goal

ST. CHARLES — Ava Brennan took a touch at the top of the box, cut inside a Geneva defender, and buried a left-footed shot into the far corner in the 78th minute Friday night, giving St. Charles East a 2-1 victory and the Class 3A Streamwood Sectional championship at the Saints' home pitch.

The win sends St. Charles East (19-3-2) to next week's supersectional against Naperville North and marks the program's first sectional title in seven years. A crowd estimated at more than 1,200 — the largest home attendance in program history according to school officials — erupted when the ball hit the net, rushing the field seconds after the final whistle.
