KCSL Opening Meet: Geneva Edges Batavia in Season Opener
The Kane County Summer League opened its 2026 season Saturday with Geneva defeating Batavia 214-178 in a dual meet at the Geneva Community Pool. The result marked Geneva's fourth consecutive opening-day win over their longtime rivals and suggests another competitive summer in the Fox Valley's oldest summer swim program.
Geneva's 11-12 girls relay team — Hailey Chu, Lena Park, Sofia Reyes, and Emma Whitfield — set a pool record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:14.3, breaking the mark of 2:16.1 set in 2023. Batavia's Jack Trautvetter won three individual events in the boys 13-14 age group, taking the 50 free, 100 butterfly, and 100 backstroke.
Batavia head coach Rob Dunning said the meet showed promise despite the loss. "Our 10-and-under kids improved in almost every event from last season's time trials," Dunning said. "We lost on Saturday by points but we're heading into the summer with real depth. Geneva is beatable."
The KCSL season continues next Saturday with Geneva hosting St. Charles and Batavia traveling to face the Elgin Piranhas. Full results are posted at kane-swim.org.
