Geneva Boys Cross Country Logs Record Summer Miles Ahead of 2026 Campaign

Marcus Lindgren, Tribune SportsJune 23, 2026

GENEVA — On any given morning this month, a pack of Geneva Vikings runners can be spotted winding along the Fox River Trail before most of their classmates have finished breakfast. Thirty-eight athletes have committed to the program's summer mileage club, the highest participation number head coach Brian Polizzi has seen in his 11 years leading the program, and a signal that Geneva's boys cross country team intends to make noise when the season opens in late August.

The group logged a combined 4,200 miles through the first three weeks of June, according to figures Polizzi shared with the Tribune on Monday. Runners track their workouts through a shared app, and the coaching staff sets tiered weekly goals — 30 miles for varsity hopefuls, 20 for newcomers. The top performer so far is rising senior Aiden Driscoll, who has averaged 52 miles per week while targeting a sub-15:30 three-mile time this fall.
