Three more farmland parcels received preliminary development approval from Kane County planners this month. Combined, they represent 340 acres that will be converted from agricultural land to residential subdivisions.

This is not an isolated trend. Over the past decade, Kane and Kendall counties have lost more than 12,000 acres of farmland and natural open space to development — an area roughly the size of the city of Aurora.
