Geneva approves $4.2M pedestrian bridge linking Mill Creek to downtown

Caroline NovakMay 22, 2026

GENEVA — The Geneva City Council on Monday night approved $4.2 million in funding for a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge spanning the Fox River, connecting the Mill Creek subdivision on the city's west side to the downtown commercial district. The vote was 7-2 after nearly 90 minutes of public comment from residents on both sides of the issue.

The 540-foot cable-stayed bridge, designed by Naperville-based engineering firm Strand Associates, would land near the intersection of Third Street and South River Lane, giving an estimated 3,800 Mill Creek households direct walking access to shops, restaurants, and the Geneva Metra station. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with completion targeted for late that year.
