GENEVA — The Geneva City Council voted 7-2 Monday night to approve a pilot program that will close the 100 block of Third Street to vehicle traffic on Saturdays and Sundays from June 7 through September 27, transforming the stretch into a pedestrian plaza with café seating, live music, and rotating vendor stalls.
The plan, which has been under discussion since a feasibility study was commissioned last October, will cost the city an estimated $142,000 in temporary infrastructure, signage, and weekend staffing for traffic control. Funding will come from the city's downtown revitalization reserve, which currently holds $1.3 million following a 2024 hotel-motel tax increase.
