Batavia Memorial Day Parade Steps Off Monday at 10 a.m. — Route and Parking Guide
The city of Batavia will hold its annual Memorial Day parade Monday morning, with the procession stepping off at 10 a.m. from the intersection of Wilson Street and Island Avenue and proceeding east to Batavia Avenue, then south to the Riverview Cemetery for a brief ceremony at the veterans memorial.
Road closures along Wilson Street and sections of Batavia Avenue will take effect at 8:30 a.m. and are expected to reopen by noon. The city recommends parking in the municipal lots on River Street or North Washington Street and walking to the parade route. The Illinois Prairie Path crossing at Wilson Street will remain accessible for cyclists and pedestrians during the event.
This year's grand marshal is retired Army Sgt. First Class Donna Mielke of Batavia, who served three tours in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division and now volunteers with the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission. The Batavia High School marching band, three American Legion posts, and contingents from the Batavia Police and Fire departments will participate.
In the event of rain, the parade will proceed as scheduled. The post-parade ceremony at the veterans memorial will be abbreviated if weather is severe. Updates will be posted to the city's website and social media accounts by 7 a.m. Monday.
